SAP business one ERP software was launched by SAP for SME market after acquiring Israel based developer firm. Initially this ERP solution did not contain web CRM and e-commerce modules and later these were introduced in 2009 as separate components. This ERP software caters to the needs of small and medium sized market through its 15 core modules including web CRM and e-commerce.
SAP business one ERP contains sales, sales opportunity, purchase, financial, banking, business partners, inventory, production, MRP and service modules for carrying out basic tasks of any small and medium sized business organization. Along with these modules administration module provides facility to configure the whole ERP according to the working hierarchy of the company issuing access authorities to different users in the company.
Report module contains pre-defined and user-defined reports along with latest addition of business objects for flexible and better reporting. This module uses crystal reports and XL reporter for reporting purposes. Web CRM module was introduced with the ERP later as an external component, this module provides options for client-company communication, sales force automation and platform for client feedback about the services and products of the company. E-commerce module enables the web presence of the company through web stores where buyers or prospect buyers can inquire about the product and buy and sell their products and services.
SAP business one comes with SOA architecture which provides flexibility in communication with main ERP application with other applications and legacy systems. The implementation process is claimed by SAP as four to eight weeks long which is quite less compared to other SAP products of similar magnitude. SAP business ERP one can interact with Microsoft products like MS-SQL server for better and easier working and its SDK can allow interaction with DB2 database too. Though SAP business ERP received CRM application at later stages but it does not appear or function as an external or add on component, it works as an interwoven module throughout the application which is an added benefit compared to previous versions of SAP business one.
Distribution module comes with all the required options for distribution and wholesale company along with automatic summary wizard to sum up multiple shipments onto one Invoice. Manufacturing module, though it supports light manufacturing which includes features to support assembling activities rather than core manufacturing, but it has important options like BOM and material requirements planning. Customization is comparatively easy and user interface is easily manageable and understandable too with drag and relate facility.
SAP business one ERP software has many features, all of them come along with ERP, out of which some may or may not be required by a particular customer. Distribution module does not support radio frequency or multiple bin inventory without external tools. Though ERP is targeted for SME market yet lack of facility to consolidate financial data can be a serious handicap for any user. The cost of full fledged ERP may become higher for small and medium sized companies if calculated with add on and external components which may put this ERP out of reach of such buyers.
