Microsoft Dynamics GP Review

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Microsoft dynamics GP was originally developed as an accounting software till it was taken over by Microsoft. This was first accounting software to allow multi-user facility and has been written in dexterity language. Even today most of the code is in dexterity and uses MS-SQL server at the back end to store data.

Microsoft dynamics GP is one of the four ERP packages of Microsoft dynamics, it provides ERP solution to SME market. Major modules included in this ERP are financial, human resource, IT, manufacturing, project accounting and supply chain management, along with these business intelligence, business productivity, collaboration, compliance and field service are other modules provided in the ERP. This ERP software is available in two versions business essential and advanced management from which buyer can choose one according to its need and modules can be added later to match the exact requirement.

Microsoft GP ERP software provides integration throughout the enterprise through one application for smooth working and increasing productivity. Business intelligence provides out of the box solutions for flexible reporting and sophisticated analysis tools. Implementation and customization is quick and easy which increases ROI and facility to add applications gives rapid adaptability to change the software according to the needs.

Customization of Microsoft dynamics GP ERP software is comparatively easy as it can interact with the applications written in .NET, previously this ERP was dependant on dexterity language. For integration Dynamics GP uses mixed Microsoft proprietary technologies like BizTalk server, component object model, .NET framework and Microsoft message queuing and it also uses industry standard technologies like web services and XML which allows it to source the data with safety and flexibly form any source.

Electronic document delivery allows scheduled mailing of documents like Invoices, Credit notes, Debit notes etc according to the defined rules which increases customer responsiveness and reduces administrative overheads. The documents can be delivered in PDF, XML, HTML or MS-Excel format. Another feature of Microsoft dynamics GP is its integrated process server which disallows slowing down of execution by taking on the processing job onto itself rather than doing it on client computers. This maintains the speed of application universally same throughout the enterprise irrespective of IT infrastructure, to a large extent.

Financial module of Microsoft dynamics GP ERP is the most versatile module with special options like e-expense automated management, e-banking, encumbrance management and grant management. Supply chain management along with other normal features has advanced picking, advanced distribution, available to promise and demand planner. Field service provides options for managing services and its web based tools allows customers to resolve service related issues themselves. It uses analytics tools like Microsoft forecaster, management reporter, enterprise reporting and FRx along with Microsoft SQL server reporting service and smart list builder retrieve the data for powerful reporting.

Lack of connectivity with active directory is biggest criticism of Microsoft dynamics GP apart from this third party customization application are required for matching the exact needs of the customer which can make the process longer and ERP costlier as accessed at the beginning of the implementation.
